President’s Message

Engaged with Our Communities

Message from the President || Robert Weinberg

In my last report, I commented on how fast winter went by and now I am thinking, “what happened to spring?” Here at ACMO, spring was so very busy we hardly noticed the rainy weather.

This past February, the ACMO Board of Directors called and held a Special General Meeting of Members to inform members of a Special Resolution to increase the number of Board members from nine to thirteen, in stages over the next three years. This resolution was a crucial element in our goal to achieve true regional representation on the ACMO Board of Directors. The resolution was ratified by our members by an overwhelming majority.

In April, we held our AGM with an expanded slate of nominees to allow for the increased number of Board members from 9 to 11. I am happy to report we have indeed achieved the first step as we now have 11 elected Board members including regional representation from the GTA, Southwestern Ontario and Eastern Ontario. We are hoping to see a representative from Northern Ontario on next year’s ballot, as we increase our Board from 11 to 12 representatives and to 13 in 2019. Please join me in welcoming our returning Board member from the Ottawa area, Debbie Wilson, RCM, and our newly elected directors, Deb Bechard, RCM, Michael Feherty, RCM, Kevin Middleton, RCM and Laura Lee, RCM.

We continued to attend regular meetings with Ministry staff responsible for drafting regulations under the Protecting Condominium Owners Act, 2015 (PCOA) and the Condominium Management Services Act (CMSA), and we look forward to playing a major role in the education of managers under the CMSA.

Our members have been playing a key part in other essential panels. Our appreciation goes out to Michael Sentenai for the update he provided as an ACMO representative to the TSSA Elevating Devices Advisory Council.

As ACMO President, I have been invited to attend a Ministry of Energy EWRB Stakeholder Working Group consultation meeting on June 19. Based on the outcome of the first meeting, (assuming there will be more), we will be putting out a call to RCMs for expressions of interest to participate in future sessions.

We, along with our partners at CCI Toronto, put the finishing touches on the education program for the 21st Annual ACMO CCI-T Condominium Conference to be held November 10 & 11, 2017. We believe we created an excellent list of sessions including some very interesting mini-sessions. Sponsorships and exhibitor reservations are moving at a very fast pace. Don’t miss out!

Stay tuned for the launch of our new reference library late this summer.

And now for our moment of Zen …. Summertime in our industry generally means fewer AGMs but more project management. Please remember the work-life balance – plan a vacation, play some golf, visit family and friends, take your kids to the park or a summer resort or just make time for yourself. We must work to live but let’s not live to work.
