What inspired you to pursue a career in condominium management, and what was your path to get here? As a Scout from the age of 13, I have had the privilege of serving in a variety of leadership roles within the world-renowned Scout Movement. My involvement has included achieving the prestigious President Scout Award as a Senior Scout, earning the Wood Badge, and serving as a Scout Leader, Headquarters Commissioner, and Chairman of the Multicultural Committee. These experiences instilled in me a lifelong passion for leadership, organization, problem-solving, and community engagement.
With over 26 years of experience in property management, I have successfully managed more than 200 residential and commercial condominium properties. I am also proud to be the first Tamil professional to earn the Registered Condominium Manager (RCM) designation from ACMO.
My career began with hands-on responsibilities in operations, vendor coordination, and owner relations, and over time I advanced into senior leadership positions. Today, as President & CEO of Capitalink Property Management Inc., I remain committed to delivering exceptional service, operational excellence, and innovative property management solutions.
In addition to my professional work, I have contributed to community education by hosting a condominium living talk show on a local Tamil radio station, helping residents better understand condominium living, governance, and property management.
If you could teach only one skill to a new condo manager, what would it be, and why is it essential? I would teach effective communication. A condo manager is constantly liaising between boards, residents, and service providers. Clear, professional, and empathetic communication ensures smooth operations, prevents misunderstandings, and builds trust with all stakeholders. This is especially important when managing large and diverse communities, as I have experienced throughout my career.
Describe a memorable moment or personal victory on the job that made you feel proud. One of my proudest moments was successfully coordinating major capital projects—such as roof replacements, asphalt paving, and parking garage reconstruction—across multiple properties while keeping all stakeholders informed and satisfied. Achievements like leading my organization to obtain ACMO 2000 Certification, which is held by only a limited number of firms in Ontario, also stand out as significant milestones in my career.
What’s the most unexpected challenge you’ve faced as a manager—and how did you tackle it? Unexpected challenges often arise when urgent maintenance or compliance issues impact residents. In one instance, a critical system failure in a multi-unit property required immediate coordination with contractors and clear communication with residents. I addressed it by staying calm, prioritizing tasks, and maintaining consistent updates until the issue was fully resolved. My experience managing a large portfolio has helped me stay prepared for such situations.
What part of your job gives you the most satisfaction? I find the greatest satisfaction in creating safe, well-managed, and harmonious communities. Beyond operations, I also value contributing to community development—something that started early in my life through my involvement in the Scout Association. I have been actively engaged since the age of 13, serving in various leadership roles, including Headquarters Commissioner for Sri Lanka Scouts and later as Chair of the Multicultural Committee with Scouts Canada.
Complete the sentence: I’m an RCM because… I’m an RCM because I am committed to professionalism, continuous learning, and delivering excellence in condominium management, while upholding the highest standards established by ACMO.
Please share a specific way your ACMO membership has made a difference in your work or career development. ACMO has played a significant role in my professional journey. Earning the RCM designation was a key milestone, and through ACMO, I have gained access to valuable resources, training, and networking opportunities. These have helped me stay informed on industry best practices and contributed to achieving ACMO 2000 Certification for my company, ensuring a high level of service and transparency.
Imagine it’s five years from now and everything has gone better than expected—what does your ideal professional life and/or the industry look like? In five years, I envision a more technology-driven, transparent, and resident-focused condominium industry. With my strong interest in technology and background as a qualified PC technician, I see opportunities to integrate innovative systems into property management. Professionally, I aim to continue leading complex portfolios while mentoring the next generation of condominium managers.
Just for fun:
What’s your secret talent (work-related or not)? I have a strong ability to organize and streamline processes, which helps me efficiently manage multiple properties. I also enjoy exploring new software and computer hardware in my spare time.
What three items are always on your desk—and what do they say about you?
A planner: I rely on organization to manage multiple properties.
A water mug: A reminder to stay hydrated and focused.
Property files/documents: Reflect my commitment to staying informed and prepared.
What’s your ‘manager mantra’—a quote or phrase that you live by at work? Follow the Condominium Act and the corporation’s governing documents. Communicate clearly, act with integrity, seek practical solutions, treat everyone with respect, accommodate when possible, and always be ready to help.
