Condo Bands Together at the 120 Promenade Tower
Over the last two years, a unique situation has developed at the 120 Promenade Tower in Thornhill. The building’s demographic is mainly adults and retirees, with the more recent addition of younger families. The condominium manager, Melalong, along with several other residents, recognized each other’s unique musical talents and formed a band, aptly named the “120 Band”, each contributing their individual skills with both instruments and vocals.
In the summer of 2024, the band’s inaugural performance for the building’s residents was a roaring success, with standing-room-only crowds. So much so that a second performance was quickly organized for the annual holiday party and was followed by this year’s holiday party to a full house once again. It seems the residents can’t get enough.
David Wiener, a featured vocalist who has had such experience in the past, manages the group as they work together on music and song choice. Multi-talented resident Nadine James, also a featured vocalist, plays both guitar and is a seasoned drummer. The condominium manager, Mel, has a unique ability to play several styles of acoustic and electric guitar and maintains a personal collection of them. Additionally, Pat, whose talent extends beyond playing the guitar, is also a skilled sound mixer, adding another dimension to the band. Surprisingly, and recently, a resident and young university student, Sasha, asked to join the band and has added his specialty of electronic keyboard to the mix.
The 120 Band has become a centrepiece of the community, adding new life to this 35-year-old building and bringing together all residents through music, song and enjoyment.
