The Future of Condominium Management
The Future of ACMO: Elevating Ontario’s Condominium Management Profession
As Ontario’s skyline continues to rise, so does the complexity of managing the province’s ever-expanding condominium communities. With nearly 1.3 million condo units and counting, the role of the Condominium Manager has never been more critical—or more strained. At the heart of this evolving landscape stands the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO), a steadfast champion for professionalism, education, and advocacy in the field.
A Growing Industry, A Shrinking Workforce
Despite the booming condo market, Ontario faces a troubling paradox: a shortage of qualified Condominium Managers. With only about 2,500 licensed professionals overseeing thousands of buildings, the industry is stretched to its limits. ACMO recognizes this challenge and is leading the charge to attract, train, and retain the next generation of managers.
Raising the Bar Through Education
ACMO’s commitment to excellence is embodied in its Registered Condominium Manager (RCM) designation and ACMO 2000 Certification—programs that set the gold standard for knowledge, ethics, and performance. These credentials not only elevate individual careers but also instill confidence in boards and residents alike. Through our online and in person education and events, we deliver unparalleled, timely education that focuses on what matters most to our members and the clients they serve: stability, preparedness and long-term planning.
Advocacy That Matters
From outdated status certificate fees to regulatory bottlenecks, ACMO is actively lobbying for reforms that reflect the realities of modern condo management. By working closely with government bodies and industry stakeholders, ACMO ensures that managers have the tools, protections, and recognition they deserve. Regulators don’t practice condominium management. They often don’t understand the unintended consequences of the changes they propose and how bad actors can weaponize processes to their advantage. We do. Our advocacy focuses on pragmatic enforcement, wise governance, increased financial literacy and long-term thinking. Condominium Management isn’t about speculative investment, it’s about ensuring continuity.
Embracing Innovation
The future of condo management is digital. Smart building systems, cloud-based communication platforms, and data-driven maintenance are reshaping the profession. ACMO is helping managers stay ahead of the curve by promoting tech literacy and best practices that enhance efficiency and resident satisfaction.
Building a Sustainable Workforce
ACMO is calling for a long-term strategy to make condominium management a desirable career path. This includes:
• Competitive compensation
• Clear advancement opportunities
• Supportive work environments
• Public awareness campaigns to highlight the profession’s value
A Community of Leaders
More than just an association, ACMO is a community—a place where managers connect, learn, and grow. Through events, publications, and peer support, ACMO fosters a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Looking Ahead
The future of ACMO is not just about adapting to change—it’s about leading it. By investing in people, advocating for progress, and embracing innovation, ACMO is ensuring that Ontario’s condominium communities are managed with professionalism, integrity, and care.
For those considering a career in condo management or seeking to elevate their practice, ACMO isn’t just a resource—it’s a movement.
