What path brought you to a career as a condominium manager?
With a background in marketing and a passion for connecting with people, I was drawn to property management because it allowed me to engage directly with residents, address their concerns, and problem-solve. This role combines my skills in customer service and building management with my commitment to fostering strong community relationships.
How has your membership in ACMO helped you in your career?
It has been a cornerstone for my career, offering quality training, industry insights, and access to an experienced professional network. This has allowed me to stay informed on best practices and regulatory changes, equipping me to manage properties more effectively and meet residents’ needs.
What is one must-have skill for a condominium manager? Why?
Effective communication is vital for condominium management. It ensures that interactions with residents, board members, and contractors are clear and respectful, fostering trust and resolving issues quickly within the community.
Tell us about a personal success story on the job.
I successfully mediated a long-standing noise dispute between two residents by bringing in an acoustic engineer and implementing their recommendations. This approach resolved the conflict to everyone’s satisfaction and enhanced the community’s trust in management.
What’s your biggest challenge as a manager?
One challenge is handling situations where residents may voice concerns harshly or assign blame. While patience and empathy are crucial, it can be difficult not to take some feedback personally. I’m working on keeping a balanced perspective to avoid internalizing these interactions.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Helping people by providing information they need and sparking valuable conversations within the community.
Best business advice you ever received.
Focus on solving problems, and success will follow.
