Legal & Regulatory Updates in Condominiums

Hello ACMO members and loyal readers!

As the year winds down, we’re reflecting on some fantastic milestones and gearing up for an exciting year ahead. Here’s a glimpse at what’s been happening and what’s on the horizon:

Event Highlights

We kicked off the fall season with a sold-out luncheon on September 27, 2024, where over 400 guests joined us for an engaging session titled Greening Your Condo: Practical Steps to Achieve Energy Efficiency and Reduce Operating Costs. A big thank you to everyone who attended and made this event such a success!

On October 23, 2024, we hosted the Advanced Financial-Audits Certificate Course, which saw over 500 participants connecting remotely. It was inspiring to see such strong interest in professional development opportunities.

And, of course, our 2024 Condo Conference was a true highlight of the year. From bustling exhibits to informative sessions and fantastic networking opportunities, it was an event to remember! We're gathering feedback and data, and we can’t wait to bring you an even more dynamic conference in 2025.

Advocacy in Action

We’re proud to share some exciting progress from our advocacy efforts with the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery (MPBSDP):

Simplified Status Certificates: We proposed replacing the Preliminary Information Certificate (PIC) with a streamlined blank status certificate.
Privacy Protection: We’re championing the reversal of a law requiring directors’ personal information to be publicly available, emphasizing safety and privacy.
Fee Adjustment: We recommended raising the status certificate fee to $500 to better reflect its value and administrative effort.
Mental Health Support: We advocated for research into external agencies to assist managers in handling mental health crises in their communities.

Additionally, we’ve rallied support for a private member's bill to improve directors’ privacy—a crucial step for our industry.
