ACMO Advanced Certificate Course Update

On September 27, 2023, a record 560 attendees participated in the second offering of ACMO’s Advanced Ethics Certificate Course, which was made available to members at no cost, a $155 value. ACMO President, Eric Plant, led course participants through a variety of case studies exploring how managers can act ethically while dealing with conflicting and sometimes unethical demands from their employers, boards of directors and residents. In a course satisfaction survey participants rated their satisfaction level as being 9.4 out of 10. This is a compulsory course for those pursuing the RCM designation and those who achieved a minimum of 80% on the course quiz received their certificate and 5 CPE credits towards the renewal of their General License.

Our next new certificate course will launch on December 12, 2023 on the topic of Advanced Fire Safety. Developed in conjunction with the National Life Fire Safety Group, the course will provide managers with greater knowledge of fire safety planning and an understanding of the regulations required to maintain a fire-safe building. The course will include lessons learned and best practices regarding life safety systems and building staff readiness and will support compliance efforts for building management.

Behind the scenes, we’re busy finalizing new advanced certificate courses on New Builds & Tarion, Building Structure & Envelope, Condominium Finance, and Insurance, which will debut in 2024.

ACMO Issues Call To Action Re Manager Harassment and Abuse

In October, ACMO issued a press release to 150 media contacts across Ontario as a call to action regarding the escalating wave of harassment and abuse condominium managers face, and how this is contributing to managers leaving the profession and exacerbating the shortage of qualified professionals in this vital sector. The goal of the press release was to bring awareness to this important issue and as a call to action encouraging management firms, industry associations, government representatives and condo corporations to work together on building a solution through education, and fostering open communication. By implementing practical solutions, the industry can create a more supportive and productive environment for condominium managers, ultimately leading to a healthier and more sustainable environment for managers, directors, and owners alike.

ACMO Regional Taskforce Pilot: Forging New Pathways

As part of its 2023-2025 Strategic Plan, ACMO recently launched a “Regional Task Force” pilot project in ACMO’s Northern Region with the goal of exploring and testing ways ACMO might expand its geographic footprint across Ontario. The taskforce is comprised of a number of local ambassadors who have agreed to provide their knowledge, advice, and assistance to improve ACMO’s membership development efforts and enhance program delivery in the area. Taskforce members include:

  • Van Smith, Crossbridge Condominium Services
  • Tanya Brown, Your Home Property Management Inc.
  • Lisa Johnston, Bayshore Property Management
  • Crystal Moore, Laker Property Management Ltd.
  • Alwyn Aliaga, Andrejs Management Inc.
  • Allan Nolan, Your Home Property Management Inc.
  • Ashley Chiaramida, ACMO  Sonia Ojha, ACMO

During their inaugural meeting, the task force identified a variety of strategies and tactics to improve membership engagement in the north, as well as events that could add member value and attract new members. The meeting laid the groundwork for a comprehensive strategy starting with the compilation of an extensive contact database for outreach and marketing purposes. The taskforce will be meeting regularly to evolve and implement their plans. If the pilot program proves effective, ACMO will roll out the Regional Taskforce concept to other regions across Ontario. Stay tuned as we embark on this transformative journey towards expanding our vibrant community of condominium management professionals across Ontario.
