ACMO Continuing Education Credit Program Ending for RCMs
Back in 2011, ACMO introduced the condominium industry’s first Continuing Education program requiring Registered Condominium Managers (RCM®) to complete 10 hours of continuing education annually to build their knowledge and stay current. Recently, the CMRAO followed suit, announcing that effective July 1st, 2023, General Licensees must log 10 hours of continuing education to maintain and renew their licence.
Given that a manager must possess a valid General Licence to obtain and maintain the RCM designation, duplicating efforts does not make sense, so we decided to wrap up ACMO’s Continuing Education program effective July 1st, 2023.
As a result, we will no longer require RCMs to track continuing education credits to renew their ACMO membership and RCM designation – maintenance of a valid CMRAO General Licence will suffice.
To assist the CMRAO and our RCM members in tracking continuing education credits going forward, ACMO will submit confirmed attendee lists for all our CMRAO-approved continuing education seminars, webinars, and Advanced Certificate Courses to the CMRAO.
New ACMO Advanced Safety and Technology Certificate Course
With mounting concerns about condominium safety and security, 123 individuals participated in the latest ACMO Certificate Program, offering an “Advanced Safety and Technology” course on July 25th, 2023. This very informative and detailed course was developed and delivered on behalf of ACMO by Benjamin Tabesh of Condor Security Inc., an industry leader serving safety and security in condominiums for over 20 years, and Elad Bar of DND Group, a security systems expert with 15 years of experience in the industry. The course was well received, with participants rating their overall satisfaction as 8.7 out of 10.
Participants gained a deeper understanding of the different types of property security and electronic systems, how they work, and what to consider when evaluating, purchasing and implementing security systems. The course reviewed the types, features, pros and cons of various security camera systems, access control systems, enter phones, panic stations, and in-suite alarms, and identified emerging security technologies.
The ACMO Advanced Safety and Technology Certificate course is a CMRAO-approved learning activity worth 5 CPE credits - half the points required for General Licence renewal!
Watch for our subsequent courses in the ACMO Certificate Program to launch this fall/winter.
ACMO Raises Awareness of the Condominium Manager Shortage
On Monday, May 29, 2023, ACMO issued a press release about the present and growing shortage of condominium managers, which will worsen with the government of Ontario’s push to build 1.5 million new homes, including condominiums, within the next 10 years.
Our goal for this press release was to bring awareness to the general public of this important issue facing our industry and to serve as a call to action encouraging management firms, industry associations, government representatives and condo corporations to work together on a solution to attract more people to the profession.
The article was picked up by Condo Business, CBC Toronto and the Toronto Sun.
