President’s Message

Building on Our Legacy

Message from the President || Robert Weinberg

Spring has sprung. The grass has riz. I wonder where the birdie is.

As we finish off the winter past, we are reminded of the work ahead for the spring and summer to help our clients’ properties shine. As employers and supervisors, we start shuffling schedules to accommodate the myriad of vacation requests that have started flooding into our emails. As managers, some of us have begun the process of creating specifications for work to be completed this summer, while others have transitioned to new sites; and most of us have started sending out pre-AGM notices (using the new forms). Suffice it to say, as usual, WE are all very busy this time of year in our daily jobs.

While we all start with the rebirth of the growing season, I personally have reached the end of my tenure as President of ACMO.

For me, this is a bittersweet time. I can remember how nervous I was addressing my fellow RCMs at the April 2009 AGM when I asked for their vote. My election speech included three main issues: 1) licencing for condominium managers, 2) achieving respect for what we do for boards, owners and the industry as a whole, and 3) soliciting higher wages for condominium managers and condominium management companies, befitting the professionals we were (and are). I guess it resonated because I was elected.

I could never have known at the time, that I would become President of this fine Association and then be privileged enough to co-sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Minister of Government and Consumer Services on behalf of ACMO, to establish ACMO as the educator for the Minister’s Condominium Management Licencing Program. I am so proud of all the Board members with whom I served to get us to the table and with those who helped us cross the finish line. To all of you and the countless volunteers and ACMO Management and Staff who have collectively spent thousands of hours to organize and hold the meetings, seminars, planning sessions, government advocacy days, and many more information and educational events to help spread the word about ACMO to government and industry, I sincerely thank you for helping to make the Licenced Condominium Manager a reality.

But, we are not finished yet. The ACMO team is still working hard to complete its commitment to the Ministry and the CMRAO. We are in the process of writing four (4) brand new educational manuals and a new online continuing educational program for all Licensees who were RCMs and/or Licenced before June 30, 2018. (We still all must pass the Condominium Law Continuing Education segment of the program as it relates to the amendments in the Condominium Act 1998).

As I leave this office, I am confident my successors will continue on a proud legacy as I tried to, following my predecessors. As a final note, I ask that you remember your roots. ACMO helped us all gain credibility as condominium professionals and to build a career as a result. I ask you to continue to support the organization that made it possible for you to become a Licenced Professional.

Thank you for supporting me and for continuing to support ACMO.
