Responsive to Your Needs

Message from the Executive Director || Amanda Curtis

The industry has undergone significant change, and ACMO remains committed to bringing educational and networking opportunities to condominium management professionals across the province to assist them in adapting to the changing landscape.

In the first quarter of 2018 educational sessions and conferences have been held in the GTA, Burlington and Barrie, as well as in Ottawa where 21 new Registered Condominium Managers were recognized and two ACMO 2000 Certificates awarded. Congratulations to our members in the national capital region.

At the Barrie Joint ACMO/CCI Huronia Conference on March 2, Armand Conant, presenting as a member of the board of the Condominium Authority of Ontario (CAO), addressed director training (over 4,000 people have completed the course), and the CAO slide deck for directors. He drew attention to the educational and information services provided by the CAO; the goal to provide efficient and cost-effective, online dispute resolution through the Condominium Authority Tribunal, and guided steps designed to address common issues thereby avoiding the escalation of disputes. our collective help to consumer

Following Armand, Ali Arlani, CEO & Registrar of The Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario (CMRAO), shared licensing milestones as well as addressing Code of Ethics regulation and Discipline roles. As of the date of the event 2,587 managers had applied for licenses, a number fast approaching original estimates of 3,000, and a further 346 applications had been received for condominium management provider licenses. Ali expressed confidence that as in his experience with other sectors, as licensing becomes established it will benefit the profession of condominium managers and the industry as a whole. He also emphasized it is important not to lose the role and experience of established associations serving the condominium industry.

In February ACMO offered a webinar designed to assist ACMO 2000 Certified firms in meeting insurance requirements for licensed property management companies. This was followed by a second webinar addressing insurance benefits for individual managers. Presenters from PROLINK addressed professional liability and other coverages, as well as the DAS telephone legal advice which is automatically included in RCM membership. Attendee feedback is always important, and we value ideas for improvement and appreciate positive comments. Thank you for your support.

In addition to programs and events, ACMO brings a comprehensive blend of value-added services to condominium professionals across Ontario. These include resource handbooks now at publication, mentorship opportunities, and advocacy. The number of Corporate members and ACMO 2000 Certified firms is currently higher than ever, and RCM renewal for 2018 is tracking strongly against previous years. These are established standards to be proud of. In 2017 ACMO was recognized by government as a partner in the provision of core education for condominium manager licensing. This is a responsibility our Association doesn’t take lightly. At the same time, our Association will not lose sight of its Mission “To advance the quality performance of condominium property managers and management companies in Ontario…..and to be responsive to the needs and wishes of the membership”.
