President’s Message

Excitement and Challenges

Message from the President || Robert Weinberg

As 2018 budgets were being drafted, we were once again put in the position of predicting the future. Will it be a very cold or mild, snowy or dry, a short or long winter season? With all our education and continuing education seminars, we have yet to be able to predict the future. We instead use a bevy of data points from past years’ performance, the Farmer’s Almanac, meteorologist TV announcements, Ouija boards, tarot cards and dart boards. As we say goodbye to 2017 and look ahead to 2018 we are all hoping and planning for something better than the last year.

This past year has been exciting, challenging and peppered with some nervous moments.ACMO Board and Committee members delivered dozens of programs including luncheons (GTA and Regional), continuing education opportunities, pub nights, boat cruises and golf tournaments. We just put on the most successful Condominium Conference to date with our partners at CCI Toronto. We saw our membership numbers grow, record attendance at RCM exam writings and more student enrolments in our courses than ever before.

We became a key working partner with the CMRAO in the delivery of education for the new licensing program, and I was privileged to sign on behalf of our organization a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services.

This document, along with the Minister’s signed Designation (July 20, 2017) has ensured ACMO’s continued leadership in the area of specific condominium management education for the next 4.5 years. To all my RCM colleagues, ACMO staff and our Associate members who helped ACMO realize this very important position, I thank you on behalf of every ACMO member.

There are differing opinions about the future of ACMO. While I too, am not equipped with special knowledge about the future, I am confident that our clients in this industry will continue to realize the benefits of hiring a Licensed RCM rather than just a licensee. We have proven time and again that our association provides the very best in education and professionalism. As we move into 2018, we will continue to build on our member benefits programs and member advocacy benefits, all of which will save you many more times the money of your membership dues. We encourage all RCMs to maintain their membership and a loyalty to an association that helped you attain your professional goals. It was this body that lobbied the provincial government since 2011 to license our profession and we should all be very proud that we were successful in achieving this goal.

On behalf of my fellow directors, our staff and all the volunteer committee members, I wish our members a Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Kwanzaa and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Robert Weinberg, MBA, RCM, ACCI ACMO President
