ACMO is 40 - Decade Two: Building on the Foundation

Last Word || Dianne Werbicki

We are featuring each of ACMO's four decades in our CM magazine this year. Here are highlights from Decade Two.

During ACMO’s first decade as a fledgling Association, the groundwork was laid for its governance structure, committees and ensuring a strong mission statement with a focus on education. All that was left was to get the word out that ACMO was in business to educate and train the province’s condominium managers to carry out their duties professionally on behalf of their Boards of Directors and in respect of the Condominium Act.

Despite the challenges of promoting the new Association, Directors were committed to raising ACMO’s profile across the province. Many achievements were attained in the growth years between 1989 and 1997. A discussion of establishing chapters was taking place. ACMO begins to take a more proactive role with governments. Oh yes, and the Association has begun to turn a profit and there’s money in the bank!

Commenting on the early years for ACMO’s 15th anniversary in 1992: “We were successful in getting people to talk to one another and we found members willing to exchange ideas and information without fear. More people started to attend meetings, guest speakers started to come out to meetings to exchange their ideas and products and services, all of which started bringing people together. We were well on our way to becoming a respected and recognized organization. – Ron Outram, past president of ACMO

It’s agreed that education will be primary focus of the organization. ACMO Corporate members are not forgotten and a dedicated program of excellence and accountability for condominium management companies – ACMO2000 – is launched.
